World’s tallest Confucius statue is coming up in China
China to unveil the world’s tallest statue of Confucius in eastern China’s Shandong Province during this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival on September 24 2018.
The statue is 72 meter tall and is made of brass. The statue is installed near Nishan in the city of Qufu, which is the birthplace of Confucius.
Confucius who lived between 551 BC and 479 BC, also known as Kong Qui or K’ung Fu-tzu, was a Chinese philosopher, teacher and political figure. His teachings, preserved in the Analects, focused on creating ethical models of family and public interaction and setting educational standards.
Throughout history, Confucius is widely considered as one of the most important and influential individuals in shaping the lives of humanity.
The ideas promoted by Confucius include rule by virtue, self-discipline in appeasing others and harmony in diversity.
“The height of the statue coincides with the number of sages among Confucius’ disciples,” said Hu Yantao, head of the construction project which started in 2013.
The main part of the statue is supported by eight pillars from the inside and its base covers an area of 7,800 square meters.
The highest statue of Confucius will draw people’s attention worldwide, which is helpful in promoting traditional Chinese culture,” said Yang Chaoming, Head of the Confucius Research Institute of China.
Confucianism seemed to be in a revival mode, as China is emphasizing on its traditional culture and develops its vision, concepts, values and ethics to keep pace with the times.
