Kargil Ladakh Tourism Festival 2018 commences

Haji Inayat Ali, Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council and Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Advisor to the governor,  have inaugurated the two-day Kargil Ladakh Tourism Festival-2018 at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium at Biamathang Kargil.

The two-day event features multi-ethnic traditional music and dance performances by folk artists of different ethnic groups of the region including Purgi, Dalti, Dardi.

The event also features traditional horse polo and archery matches. Besides, it also has an exhibition of local art and craft on various stalls, which serves ethnic food.

Haji Inayat Ali highlighted the scope of tourism in Kargil, and said that the topography of the district makes it unique for winter sports. “The need is to highlight it so that tourists will throng the place during winters also,” he said urging the tourism department to prepare a comprehensive plan in this regard.

“Development of Ladakh region on modern lines is the commitment of the Governor’s Administration for which all the necessary steps will be taken,” said Advisor Ganai. He also said that the main purpose of the festival is to boost the potential of tourism in Kargil. He exhorted upon the Tourism Department to further intensify its publicity and promotional activities so as to attract the maximum number of tourists from across the country, reported GK.
