Kerala honours fishermen who saved many lives during floods

Kerala lauded the heroes of the state, whose selfless actions have saved thousands of lives during the devastating flood.  The state government has arranged a programme to felicitate the fishermen community, who were part of the rescue operations during the flood. Around three hundred fishermen, who have saved around 65000 lives, were given cash prizes, mementos and certificates by the Chief Minister

“Fishermen have showed reckless courage in carrying out the rescue operations. Experts in this field have accepted this fact. The fishermen army had become an important part of the rescue operations. This shows the unity of our state,” said Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala.

“When rushing to the flooded areas, they did not think about anything, even about their families or the risk associated with the action. They have considered  the flood victim as their siblings and the state gives them a big salute,” said the CM.

“We should also appreciate the efforts of our youth who have participated in the rescue and relief activities. They have take part in the activities by their own and without any exhortation from anyone. They might not have witnessed such a disaster in their life. Still they have come forward to help their fellow beings, when it was needed. We have a young generation, who are ready to contribute their selfless service, when there is an emergency in the state. This is the sign that the future of our state is safe in the hands of responsible youth,” added the CM.

The CM also mentioned two young men in his speech, Arun Nella and Ajomon who came from the US after a fundraiser campaign through Facebook, bringing an amount of Rs 10 Crore for the CM’s Disaster Relief fund.

“We love our state. We should re-build it as it was before or better than that. Now our efforts should be in that direction. We are not ready to lament on the things already happened. We will take our beloved state to new heights”, concluded the CM
