Tourism fraternity reaches out to help the flood victims of Chengannur
Relief efforts are in full swing in different parts of Kerala after the flood waters started receding. Tens of thousands of people are still displaced from their homes.
And the tourism fraternity from Trivandrum, the capital of the state which was not affected by the floods, is rushing to the aid of the flood victims. About 170 tourism professionals from various tourism organisations and hospitality groups volunteered to clean houses in Chengannnur, where the flood was at its worst.
Armed with rubber gloves and shoes, other tools and equipment, they had cleaned many houses and buildings in and around Edanadu at Puthenkavu in Chengannur today.
Association of Tourism Trade Organizations India (ATTOI), Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) Society, Tourism Professionals Club, South Kerala Hoteliers Federation and other major associations and hospitality groups were a part of the cleaning process.
The team, reached Edanadu Shalom Marthoma Church at 9 am and was split into different groups to carry out the cleaning processes. Each group ensured the presence of a plumber and electrician. The group has also cleaned the anganwadis, government owned child care centres across India, is Edanadu apart from the houses. The tourism fraternity has also adopted an anganwadi in the area and has even helped it paint new before leaving Chengannur on the first day of its mission.
