Sri Lanka to deploy 25 new Tourist Police Posts

As part of enhancing security of the foreign tourists, Srilankan Police is planning to deploy 25 new tourist police posts in strategic places, covering all main tourist destinations across the country, said Pujith Jayasundara,  Sri Lanka’s Inspector General of Police(IGP), on Monday, 13th August 2018 .

While talking to the Chairman and senior officials of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), Jayasundara said, tourism is one of the prioritized sector for security matter.

‘Tourist Police Division’ will have new uniform, to distinguish from the other law and order sections and to build more cordial relations with tourists visiting Sri Lanka.

“Tourism sector is going to be the largest foreign exchange earner for the country; hence ensuring safety of the foreigners visiting Sri Lanka will be a top priority for the Police force,” added Jayasundara.

The Tourist Police Division will be given special training to deal with the foreign tourists. Training will include language training to learn more foreign languages including English, Hindi and Chines.

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, which was once heavily mutilated by decade’s long civil conflicts, has become one of the leading  tourist destinations after it was labelled as one of the world’s greatest tourist hot spots by several international publications.
