No tiger safaris in Telangana this monsoon

Travellers to Amrabad and Kawal tiger reserves in Telangana have to keep in mind that the authorities have temporarily stopped the popular jungle safaris in these two reserves during this monsoon season. This season is considered a breeding season for most animals.

The decision was taken as per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), which first issued a directive in this regard in 2015. The reserves will be shut for tourists till September-end and are likely to reopen by early or mid-October.

This is the first time the state is closing the tiger reserves. But however, this practice has been there in almost all the tiger reserves across the country.

“Forest department officials are using this period to take up grassland management and improvement works. A similar exercise has been taken up in Amrabad too. The work includes removal of invasive weeds and exotic plants, and casting of seeds of naturally occurring grasses in open plots to create more fodder for herbivores such as deer,” said C Saravanan, Field Director of Kawal Tiger Reserve.
