Manifold promotional plans for Uttarakhand Tourism
As part of their mega ‘Destination Uttaraghand’ programme, the state government is planning various events to attract investment for the development of the state, especially in the tourism sector.
An Investors Summit is scheduled in Dehradun on 4th and 5th October 2018. It will organize sector-specific Mini Investors Conclaves in different parts of the State in August. Out of the four Mini Conclaves, two conclaves specific to tourism sector will be held in Tehri and Nainital on August 7 and August 10 respectively. While the Tehri conclave will discuss tourism and wellness, the Nainital Conclave will focus on investment opportunities in tourism and film shooting.
“The mega Investment Meet in October will only have a limited focus on Tourism, like infrastructure development, rope-ways, etc., while the Mini Conclaves will explore the untapped potential in areas like adventure tourism, culinary tourism, etc. Infrastructure development around Tehri Lake will be another major subject in the discussions,” said Satpal Maharaj, Minister of Tourism, Uttarakhand.
The Government aims at converting the Himalayan state to be a hub for adventure tourism activities like skiing, heli-skiing etc. The government will seek support from French government to extend the ropeway at Auli to Gorson, so that the visitors can get the panoramic view of Himalayas. “We will also ask France to open a unit of the Data Centre at Chamonix at Auli,” added the Minister.
“Everything associated with Indian tourism is in the State, especially the Ganges and the Himalayas and therefore government is committed to bring in strict guidelines for all sorts of nature and adventure activities,” said the Minister.
The minister reiterated the importance of tourism in the economic development of the state and all the necessary infrastructure development works to facilitate tourism will be done with highest priority.
The minister also said the state have plans to lease out the government guest houses to the private sector, as the private hoteliers are better equipped to market and promote such infrastructure than the government agencies.
Uttarakhand Tourism has also finalised schedule for domestic road-shows to promote the State in the domestic market. These road shows will be held in Bengaluru (August 22), Hyderabad (August 23), Ahmedabad (August 24), Mumbai (August 29) and Delhi (August 30).
