Trichy to have 53 cr tourism development programme
Trichy, said to be deprived of development projects in recent years, is going to have tourism development projects worth Rs 53 crores as approved by a high power committee of the government. The project is part of the Smart City Mission, which is aiming at make six prominent tourist places neat and tidy.
It will be an ABD project (Area Based Development) around Rockfort, consisting of historical places, a park and a water body. It will propagate the rich cultural heritage of Trychy by displaying the authentic historical information of the empires that ruled it.
Rockfort, Main Guard Gate, Theppakulam, War Memorial, Municipal Chathiram and Purathan Park will be the six iconic spots of the city going to be rennovated or enhanced under this project. The complaint of lack of recreational spots in the city will be addressed once the project is completed.
As the administrative sanction has already been obtained from the State Level High Power Committee, the corporation is striving to get the technical approvals for the project. Meanwhile the ground works will commence in next three months, as informed by the Corporation Commissioner N Ravichandran.
The proposal would be discussed with the stakeholders for the immediate implementation. The spots will be decorated with better light works and signage, conveying the history of spots and thus promulgates the historical importance of the spots. The project will also serve to eliminate the prevailing inconveniences in the centers such as encroachments, unauthorized parking, traffic congestion etc.
