Srinagar-Jammu road reopens
Srinagar-Jammu highway reopened on Saturday, 30th June, after remain closed for a day due to landslide and shooting stones caused by heavy rains. Closing of the 300 km long passage connecting Kashmir to the rest of country had adversely affected the traffic, including the Amarnath pilgrimage, which started recently.
Timely intervention of Boarder Roads Organization (BRO) and National Authority of India (NHAI) enabled the prompt restoration of the transportation which hampered due to landslide and shooting stones. Thanks to the sophisticated machines and technology available with the authorities to tackle such situations.
The vehicles stranded in the highway have been cleared and movement of vehicles have started since morning. Light vehicles will be allowed from both Srinagar and Jammu, while heavy vehicles will be allowed from Sranagar to Jammu. Vehicles carrying Amarnath pilgrims will be allowed form both sides. However, the travel to Amarnath is said to be restricted due to heavy rain and bad weather conditions.
