Centre sanctions Rs 190 crores for Tripura and Assam
With an aim to enable the state to build suitable infrastructure across the state, the Union ministry has sanctioned Rs 90 crores to Tripura. As Part of the ‘Prasad’ scheme, which aims at developing the religious sites, another Rs 10 crores has also been allotted. The funds will be utilized for the development of temples, mosques and monasteries.
The tourism industry in Tripura has been remaining unexplored or underutilized until the new government came into reign. Chief Minister Bibplab Kumar Deb has taken initiative to develop and promote tourism sector and persuaded the union ministry to provide adequate funds for the purpose.
As part of the ‘Prasad’ scheme Rs 100 Crores has been allotted to for development of ‘Kamakhya Temple’ in Guwahati. Maa Kamakhya or Kameswari is the renowned Goddess of Desire whose famous shrine is located in the heart of Nilachala Hill situated in the western part of Guwahati, the Capital City of of Assam in North East India. Maa Kamakhya Devalaya is considered most sacred and oldest of the 51 Shakti Peethas on earth.
Under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spirituality Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) by the Ministry of Tourism, the Union ministry has identified twelve cities for development, namely Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), Gaya (Bihar), Dwaraka (Gujarat), Amritsar(Punjab), Ajmer (Rajasthan), Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu), Vellankani (Tamil Nadu), Puri (Odisha), Varanasi (Uttar Prasesh), Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Kedarnath (Uttarakhand) and Kamakhya (Assam).
