Domestic air traffic grows 26% in April

The domestic air traffic grew at a robust rate of 26 per cent in April with various airlines together carrying 11.5 million passengers, up from 9.1 million in the same month last year, as per government data. SpiceJet holds the top position once again in terms of seat utilisation per aircraft with 95.5 per cent seats being booked. It was followed by IndiGo (91.9 per cent), GoAir (89.5 per cent), Vistara (88.8 per cent), AirAsia (87.5 per cent), Jet Airways (85.6 per cent) and Air India (84 per cent).

As far as punctuality was concerned, IndiGo holds the crown with 86.6 per cent of its flights arriving and departing on time. SpiceJet and GoAir were a close second with 86.1 per cent of their flights operating on time. Jet Airways showed an improvement with 82.9 per cent flights being punctual compared with 75.2 per cent in March. It was followed by Jet Airways (78.4 per cent) and Air India (76.4 per cent).

IndiGo ferried 4.5 million passengers, cornering 39.8 per cent of the market share. Jet Airways came second with 14.7 per cent market share, Air India fourth with 13.3 per cent share and SpiceJet fifth with 12.4 per cent of the total pie.
