Macau tourism gets a new face in ‘Mak Mak’
So, Macau tourism gets a cute face-lift. Mak Mak, the black-faced spoonbill with shades of red, yellow and blue, has been officially declared mascot of Macao Tourism after winning a contest which had more than 110 entries. Mak Mak will now be the face of Macau and will be responsible to promote Macau globally, tempting tourists to discover and know the city made of Chinese and European cultures and traditions.
The aim of the contest was to find a mascot that uniquely represents Macau. Mak Mak was designed by Tou Chon Wai whose design was inspired by city’s historic whitewashed Guia Lighthouse, and the mix of colors was given for a European feel. The contest was organised by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) in association with the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Cultural Industry Fund.
“Throughout the contest MGTO had sought to attract outstanding entries highlighting the unique, fascinating dimensions of Macao as a travel destination”, said Helena Maria de Senna Fernandes, Director, MGTO. Mak Mak will now be used for promoting the destination and will be the face on various promotional materials. Special appearances will be made by Mak Mak at various tourism events and overseas tourism promotions, including events held in both the Australian and New Zealand markets.
Macau is famous for its gambling industry and places like Ruins of St.Paul’s, Senado Square, A-Ma Temple, Macau Tower, Fortaleza do Monte etc. Everyone visiting Macau can now have an enjoyable time with Mak Mak.
