Gaggan voted Asia’s best restaurant 4th time in a row
Gaggan claims the No.1 spot for a fourth consecutive year, retaining the dual titles of The Best Restaurant in Asia and The Best Restaurant in Thailand in the 2018 list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, sponsored by S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna.
The list of 50 best is based on votes from a group of more than 300 leaders across Asia’s restaurant industry.
“We have become a family, and that’s the best thing that has happened in the last six years of 50 Best. We have young chefs taking over from the old ones. So it’s time for us to leave and you guys to take over,” said Kolkatta-born Anand as he accepted the award.
Anand had earlier stated that he has plans to open a new restaurant in Japan and a also a bar in Bangkok where natural wines are served. Plans are that Anand may shut down Gaggan in 2020.
Interestingly, only two restaurants from India – Indian Accent (19) and Wasabi By Morimoto in Mumbai (49) could find a place in the Best 50.
