Dubai to allow transit passengers to tour emirate

According to a proposal put forward by the Dubai Airports, it would soon allow the transit passengers to Dubai to leave the airport to experience the city in no time.

“Dubai Airports proposes “Microcosm of Dubai” as part of @Dubai10X Initiative overseen by Dubai Future Foundation… In Dubai transit time will become tourism as passengers are encouraged to leave the airport to experience the city,” tweeted the Dubai Media Office through their official twitter handle.

Around 4.5 million passengers transit through the Dubai International Airport every month, reaching more than 50 million a year. Of these, an estimated 46 million do not visit the city, as per a video uploaded by the Media Office. The traditional passenger experience in airports is limited to shopping and F&B within the concourse. The average spend per visitor at DXB is 9 AED whereas average spend per tourist in the city is 966 AED.

The Dynamic Itineraries include curating unique, personalised passenger experiences through the control of their time, says the video. If the passenger has more than 4 hours of transit time, they will be encouraged to leave the airport to explore and experience Dubai where if the transit tie is less than 4 hours, then the visitors will get a virtual Dubai experience utilising wearable technology and gesture control to unlock and track user experience.

The plan is to convert transit waiting time into tourism. “Dubai and DXB will change from being a transfer hub into a sseamless and connected go-to citywide concourse,” it said.
