Seminar on skilling in hospitality at Bhubaneswar

Siksha O Anusadhan (SOA), Deemed to be University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, is organizing a two-day national seminar on February 17 and Feb 18 under the theme of “Envisioning Skilling, Entrepreneurship and Employability in the Hospitality Sector.”
“The aim of the event is to provide a common platform for hospitality and tourism academicians, researchers, industry experts, existing entrepreneurs, start-ups, NGOs, and others to meet and network,” says Dr. Sitikantha Mishra, Dean and Adviser of the School of Hotel Management, SOA.
As on September 01, 2017, the hospitality industry has provided 2,13,000 jobs in India. According to the reports of Associated Chamber of Commerce, the Indian travel, tourism and hospitality industry is expected to become the world’s second biggest employer with around 40,37,000 employees by 2019. The industry needs a large number of skilled and semi-skilled employees, but there’s a huge demand-supply gap.
“The seminar intends to discuss on a range of perspectives from leading experts from different parts of the country, covering topics like skilling youth in hospitality sector for dynamic challenges in entrepreneurship, role of incubation centres, resource generation for innovation, start-ups, creation of job opportunities/livelihoods/empowerment and business models for entrepreneurs,” added Dr. Mishra, who was the former Director of Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management, Gwalior.
