What Indian travellers preferred this winter
India is global travellers’ favourite destination in winter. Now in this Christmas-New Year holiday season, Indians are also preferring tours, mostly out of the country. Country’s largest online travel company, MakeMyTrip, reveals some interesting holiday trends among Indian travellers this winter. The conclusion is based on the analysis of booking data on its platform.
According to the report, 39% more Indians are taking a holiday this year than in 2016. International travel has grown faster, by 60 percentage, compare to domestic trips, which grow only by 37 percentage from last year. Deeper penetration of smart phones, cheaper data and considerable shift from offline to online booking are contributing partly to this growth. But there is a significant increase in number of people preferring journey during vacation.
International travellers prefer beach destinations, whereas domestic travellers split between beaches and deserts. Most popular overseas destinations are Thailand, Singapore, Dubai, Malaysia and London. In India, Goa, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Manali are favourites. Thekkady, Bhuj and Diu are fastest growing Indian destinations. Globally USA, Canada and Turkey are growing fast. Some pick off beat spots like Malvan, Kumarakom, Chikmagalur for holidays.
Popular snow hunting destinations are Manali, Shimla and Gulmarg in India and Moscow, aris and Amsterdam, overseas.Average Average holiday spending is also increasing. Domestic customers spend about rs.16,000 per person whereas an international traveller spends rs.59,000. Residents of Bengaluru lead in vacationing with Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Pune coming thereafter.
