E-visa facility launched to boost tourism
New Delhi: Government of India launched much awaited electronic visa facility for visitors from 43 countries. USA, Germany, Israel, Russia, UAE are among the countries which have got the e –visa facility in the first phase. The facility will be extended phase-wise to other countries, except those who are ‘high-risk’ countries.
E-visa facility, which simplifies the procedures, will give a major boost to the tourism sector of India. Home minister Rajnath Singh, after the official launching said, his government is aiming to double the GDP contribution of tourism, which is approximately 7% now.
Now, a visitor from these countries can apply and pay online to get an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) within 72 hours. These e-visa will be valid for 30 days and a tourist can avail this facility twice a year.
