Rajasthan tourism to promote unexplored heritage sites

Khuldhara – Abandoned Village in Rajasthan

Rajasthan, renowned for the presence of a large number of heritage buildings and monuments, is planning to promote the less known heritage sites of the state. Mostly tourism in Rajastan is focussed on the famous tourist spots, which are already in the world tourism map. The tourism department now has decided to bring the other unknown heritage spots to the limelight and thus attract more tourists to the state.

To promote tourism at these rural and remote areas, the state government has formulated a plan which will not only provide tourists with new destinations, but would boost employments in those areas.

The Panchayati Raj department has issued a circular instructing all Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zila Parishad to provide a list of heritage buildings and monuments located in the villages and small settlements of the state and place billboards narrating them at the state and national highways passing through the state. The objective of the programme is to lure the tourists who traverse the highways to visit those places depicted on the board as well.

It was instructed to give details of the monuments or heritage sites  on the bill boards along with photographs, so that the tourists can understand them easily and visit the places.

“The tourism industry is briskly growing in the state; hence not only in urban areas, but in rural areas as well it becomes necessary to promote tourist activities. This will help provide employment in rural areas. The notice boards of the local monuments should be placed on the highways that can attract tourists and make them visit the place,” states the circular issued by Kunjilal Meena, Panchayati Raj Secretary.
